처음 밴드를 시작하게 된 계기는,
어떤 거였는지 잘 생각이 나질 않네요.
남들이 잘 부른다, 잘 부른다 하니까, 연극이나 만화 외에 내안의 다른 뭔가를 찾을 수 있지 않을까? 하는 마음이 있었을 지도 모르고, 그때 당시 열광했던 자우림의 김윤아 같은 존재가 되고 싶었던 건지도 모르겠습니다.
그도 아니면... 고등학교 때만해도 "우리나라 가요는 너무 촌스러워"라는 건방진 생각을 하며,
"일본&한국 애니 음악"만 죽어라 듣던 오덕같은 아이가 처음 빠진 음악이 (지금도 대단한 인기를 누리고 있긴 하지만) 라르크엔시엘의 "Driver's High" 이어서 였는지도....
어쨌든 어떤 이유에서였든, 어떤 심경에서였든 간에,
처음 제스트라는 한국기술교육대학교의 밴드에 9기로 입성했고,
지금도 음악을 하고 있다는 사실이 중요한게 아닌가 싶습니다.
(현재는 쉬고 있는 중...)
처음 "합주"라는 개념하에 밴드의 일원으로 연습을 한 곡은
그때부터 지금까지 쭉- 저의 히로인인 Pink의 " Just like a pill"이란 노래로, 기타 치는 썽을 빼고, 모두가 초보인 우리를 위해 선정된 "연주가 무지하게 쉬운 곡"이었습니다.
하지만, 아무리 쉽다고 해도 초보는 초보.. 합주시간을 잡아도 제대로 한번 맞춰보기도 어려운 힘겨운 나날이었으며, 게다가 그때당시의 저는 완전한 소프라노를 자랑하던 초초초 날카로운 보이스를 갖고 있었기 때문에, 매번 선배들이 토해내는 "목소리가 너무 얇다","발성이 그게 뭐냐","노래랑 안어울린다","기교가 없다","재미없다","심심하다" 등 갖은 쓴소리들에 참 견디기 힘들었던 시절이기도 했죠.
하지만, 연습은 하지 않는 개념없는 후배였기도 했습니다.

그 다음, 2003년 1학기 정기공연을 마치기 위해서는 한곡이 더 필요했습니다.
그래서, 나온 "Skid Row"의 "18&life"
락이라는 음악을 접하기 시작할 당시에, 저에게 가장 많은 곡 추천을 안겨준 이는 베이스의 재윤군이었습니다.
이 때 당시, 박군은 Skid Row에 빠져있었고, 다소의 무리가 있었지만, 이 곡을 우리의 두번째 연습곡으로 추천하였더랬습니다.
다들 "x팔 라이프"로 불렀던 기억이.....
건즈의 엑슬로즈에 이은, 아름다운 보컬인 세바스찬으로 인해 여성팬들에게 엄청난 인기를 누렸던 "Skid Row"입니다.
(사실 다들 잘생겼다..-_-;)
개인적으로 좋아하는 노래는 "Forever"~
